Nests
Different Types of Nests
Grand Nests
Grand Nests are large islands filled with dragons of multiple species; thousands of dragons can be found in these nests. There is a noticeable hierarchy in the dragon world when it comes to dragons; usually the largest most powerful dragons are at the top of the food chain. At least that’s what humans have observed, the social interactions are actually a little more complex. Dragons also take intelligence into factor because not all dragons are created equal. Either way, Grand Nests are considered extremely dangerous to approach if you’re not of a dragon species. Outside dragons are welcome however must adhere to the Grand Nest rules.
There is a nest in legend that is said to be the birth place of all dragons; no human has found it and only a dragon knows its location. Its location is a closely guarded secret. The island itself is massive, and supposedly a paradise for dragons.
Dragons who are a part of a grand nest adhere to a strict set of rules and social hierarchy. The large nests offer protection from outside sources and generally are on islands that are considered a dragon’s paradise. Dragon nests are a great place to raise young for which dragons cherish greatly.
Abilities when in a Nest
- Hive mind, every dragon can share a mental link with one of their nest. This link can be severed at will but most enjoy being connected to their nest mates.
o Even if they can share thoughts Grand Nest are not bonded like those in a common nest.
Social Hierarchy in a Grand Nest
- In a Grand nest there is a king or queen dragon who oversees all of the ones in his or her nest. This dragon is considered to be the most powerful one of them all. They are able to keep track of each and every one of their nest mates and has the duty of seeing to their safety.
- The next tier of dragons are called Dragons of the First Claw, these are dragons who answer directly to the nest Queen/King. They carry out most tasks such as commanding hunting groups, or designating safe areas. Usually there numbers are between 12 to 16 in a large group. These dragons are given sections of the territory of the Grand Nest to watch over and are in charge of protected those in their section.
- The third tier would be referred to as Dragons of the Second Claw, usually dragons appointed by Dragons of the first claw to help with running their territory.
- Dragons of the Common claw are the majority of the nest mates; they are your non ranked dragons whom are a part of the hive state.
- Outsider, while outsiders are allowed they are not considered a part of the hive. Outsiders are watched carefully to be sure that they are fallowing the nests rules.

Common Nests
Common nests are small family groups usually of the same species; they are found far and wide all over the Barbaric Archipelago. In a family group they share a pack/pride mentality; most of the time they operate in prides where the females do most of the hunting. However there are numerous nests that form a pack mentality where hunting duties and such are shared as a community.
Usually outsiders are not welcomed in a common nest, even if you’re a dragon. If you are of another species of dragon and you pose a threat chances are you will be attacked on site by the pack. Same species dragons may have a chance to approach the pack however you would most likely be treated with caution.
Common Nest Abilities
- Call of the Pack, you and your family are so close knit you know their location at all times and whether they are hurt or safe. The bond shared while in a common nest is truly unique and special.
o This bond will fade if a dragon strays to far from the group, or it will be interrupted if one enters a large group like a Grand Nest.
Common Nest Hierarchy
- Matriarch/Patriarch aka Grand Claw, There are generally both a Matriarch and Patriarch of a group, these dragons are your alphas. They lead the group in almost everything. They work as tight pair to watch over there other nest mates which can reach up to groups of 30. The Patriarch and Matriarch are usually the oldest, wisest, most experienced members of the Nest.
- Beta dragons aka Sharp Claws are usually the nest mates whom have proven themselves capable hunters. They are the adults of the group and expected to help hunt and protect the pack.
- Omega dragons, also known as Dull Claws are the new and unproven members of the group or ones who simply are not the hunting fighting type. They are also the members who are usually left alone to watch over the nests.

All young ones are raised in a community like setting usually closely watched over by a Hatchling Matriarch or Patriarch. The nests are always located in a safe location shielded from most bad weather and threats. Older dragons will often line the boarders while the youngest are towards the middle. Woe be to anyone who harms a small dragon; the group will instantly turn on you for young ones are considered a dragon’s greatest treasure.
